I Spy

"Are we there yet?" A question that every parent dreads when heading out on the open road. Have a few "cards in your pocket" before heading out on your next road trip with these entertaining and engaging (for the whole family) road games.

This is probably the game that has been around the longest and can stay fun and interesting for hours, to make those long rides seem a bit shorter.

How to Play

Have one person look around and choose an object that the others have to guess. The only clue that is given begins with these words: "I spy with my little eye something that is (a color, a hint of a landmark or even just the first letter of the objects name)." The person who guesses right, will go next. However when playing this game make sure that you explain that it has to be something that stays in sight for more than a minute or so.

Name That Tune

This game is a fun one and all you need to have is access to the radio. Feel free to take "song breaks" when you come across an "oldie" or a favorite. Use the "seek" button to mix things up!

How to Play:

Turn on the radio and once a song comes on the first person to guess either the name of the song or the artist of the song is the winner! The winner than gets to choose the next radio station that everyone will be listening to and have to guess the tune. To make it more interesting just use the seek button.

20 Questions

question-mark-1This age-old game had been a part of MANY road trips. However, they have now upgraded to an electronic version where the game comes up with the questions for you and can guess what item your thinking of.

How to play:

Whomever goes first thinks of, well, anything! (person, place or thing) Then the people who are guessing ask 20 yes or no questions trying to determine the answer. At the conclusion of 20 questions, each person has one last guess before the answer is revealed and another person starts a fresh new round.

The Bridge/Tunnel Game

This game can be used in two different ways. One is a quiet version and the other one is a bit louder. Depending on the mood, you can decide which to go with.

How to Play:

The quiet version is where everyone holds their breath for as long as they can when going through a bridge or a tunnel. The person to hold their breath the longest is the winner! The louder version is where everyone yells "AH" the whole time while in the tunnel or over a bridge. The person who can do it the longest without taking a breath is the winner! As you can see, this would be something to do if they have been quiet all day and you need to get them excited or energized.
