Do you like history? We do and we want to share our Veterans Day education with you!

Did you know, Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day? Armistice Day commemorated the end of fighting World War 1 -- you may have heard before that it happened on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

So, why do we call it Veterans Day? Good question. President Woodrow Wilson celebrated the first Armistice Day in 1919. In 1938, November 11th became a legal holiday by an act of Congress and in 1954 it was changed from Armistice to Veterans Day, in order to honor all Veterans!

Not a veteran? Here are 3 ways you can honor a Veteran today and always!

  • Attend a Veterans Day event. A lot of communities host dinners, memorial services and other open-house gatherings to honor those who have served in their very own community! Stop by your local church, town hall or community center to see how your community is thanking our Veterans.
  • Hang a flag in your yard. Your flag doesn't have to be the largest on the block. Simply placing a flag on your window sill, on your mailbox or even out the window of your RV lets your Veterans know you're thinking of them and sending out a great 'thank you'!
  • Ask a Veteran about their time in the military and really listen to their story. Everyone has a tale to tell. Maybe you know someone who is or has been in active duty. Give them ten minutes of your day to listen to what they have to say. Or, visit your local Veterans home!
