READY, SET, TAILGATE!! It’s that time of year again, but as we all get ready for football season—professional, college and even high school, we know that tailgating season is also right around the corner. What’s better than chowing down on some delicious grub and indulging in liquid libations surrounded by family and friends waiting for the game to start? Nothing!

We know that sometimes the tailgating parties are better than the games, so why not go all out this year and treat yourself?! Tailgating has stopped being just the thing everyone does before the game, and instead has become a lifestyle. Whether you plan to go all out or keep it low key, here are 8 tips and tricks to help you out this season:

  1. Prep as much as you can the night before. Load up your car with as many non-perishable supplies as possible. Marinate any veggies or meat you are planning on eating; make the hamburger patties ahead of time; and cut up and organize the toppings for burgers.
  1. Pack your cooler to fit the most items possible.

  1. Hydration is the name of the game. Freeze water bottles and use as your ice packs in your cooler. When they start to unfreeze, you can take a break from other specialty drinks and get your H20 on!
  1. Make it easy for your friends and family to find your location. Tie balloons or your team’s flag to the top of your vehicle so you stand out from the crowd.

  1. Bring a large plastic tub to haul back dirty dishes and a metal bucket for hot, glowing coals to make sure your grill is extinguished all the way.
  1. Consider wind direction when you set-up your grill, you don’t want to worry about smoke blowing into your face the whole time.

  1. Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Who knows if you need to borrow an extra fork or the ketchup? Or maybe they need to use your matches to start their grill. Whatever the case, it’s nice to know you can reach out to them for extra help. You can even crack a cold one and root for your teams together!
  1. Remember to relax and have fun!! Seems pretty obvious, but in all the hustle and bustle of preparing, setting up and hosting your party, you can forget that you should also be enjoying yourself as well!
